History Troy School, situated at 44 School Street in Troy, New Hampshire, has been educating children since 1895, when it was built to house 225 children of all ages. History of Troy explains that the brick and granite building is situated on a muster field, and is seventy-six by forty-seven feet, having two stories with a basement. The entrances are at the east and west ends of the building, with the school office located at the back of the building. Halls and corridors occupy the entire north side of the building with four school rooms on the south side of the building. The floors are of hard pine and the walls are sheathed the same, with natural slate blackboards.
Classrooms measure twenty-eight by thirty-four feet, with five rooms on each floor connected by a door. Student lockers are located outside the classroom. The building is heated with steam, with boilers located in the basement of the building. The basement also houses two large classrooms, each twenty-eight by thirty-three feet, and has a concrete bottom.
General Information Troy Elementary School, with an enrollment of one hundred thirty-two students, is a Kindergarten to Grade 6 building in the Monadnock Regional School District, providing education for students in Troy. We are a Title I school with a full-day kindergarten program. We offer after-school care through our Beyond the Bell Program. Hot breakfast and lunch are also available daily to those interested.
Class Groupings The Monadnock School District is moving towards a more individualized focus on the personal, social, physical, and academic aspects of educating students. Troy School offers traditional classrooms from kindergarten to Grade 6. Students and staff work collaboratively to provide students with what they need to learn and grow into productive citizens of the 21st century.
Academics Academic programs at Troy School include strong Music, Art, Physical Education, and Makerspace programs. Our curriculum is based on the New Hampshire College and Career Readiness Standards (NHCCRS). All students participate in a rigorous mathematics and literacy curriculum, with interventions provided to students as necessary. In addition to our low teacher-to-student ratio, we have a paraprofessional staff in place to ensure that each child's individual needs are met.
Technology Troy students are educated to survive in our very technologically driven society. Students have access to Chromebook carts in grades from kindergarten to grade 4. In grades 5 and 6, students are fortunate to have 1:1 Chromebooks supported by the school district. Currently, each learning space is equipped with an LCD/DLP projector to enhance students’ learning opportunities. The District has a mandated Internet Use Policy in which both staff and students are expected to behave safely and appropriately on the internet.
Assessment State, district, school, and classroom assessments closely monitor student growth and performance. When assessment results are received, staff members are involved with analyzing the results in order to determine how the results will impact curriculum and instruction.
School-wide Focus Areas Our school-wide focus areas include the Social Curriculum, where teachers model care for self, one another, and the world; Inclusion, which is a process whereby all staff, students and community members work together to provide the best possible opportunity for the growth of all, in the least restrictive environment; Critical Skills which is a learning model which targets academic knowledge and life skills such as creative/critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, quality work, decision making, and organization; and School to Work which is and initiative which strives to prepare youth to be ready for careers of today and tomorrow. All of these areas are integrated into the academic day and aligned with the Monadnock Regional School District Curriculum (which has been aligned with the state curriculum frameworks).
School Day The school day begins at 8:30 AM, ending at 3:10 PM. Students may be dropped off beginning at 8:20 AM in the car loop located on the side of the school. No child should be on school grounds prior to 8:20 AM as there are no staff members on duty before that time. At this time, students have the opportunity to have a hot breakfast and/or connect with friends in the playground.
Each child is required to have a form on file with the office stating how they will be going home at the end of the day. No child will be allowed to leave in a manner different from what is on file without permission from a parent or guardian. If your child is going home in any way that is different from usual, please send a note to the classroom teacher or call the office by 2:30 PM. In order to keep our students and staff safe, we operate under a locked-door policy. If you wish to visit the school during school hours, you must come to the Office Entrance, located at the back of the building, and be buzzed in. All visitors are required to sign in at the office and receive and wear a visitor’s pass while on school property. You will not be allowed to visit your child’s classroom without the permission of the classroom teacher. All visitors must sign out upon leaving the building.
New Student Registration All students must register with the school prior to attending classes, using the online registration process found at www.MRSD.org. Children entering school for the first time must have proof of physical examination, and immunization records, and the school must receive a copy of the child's birth certificate. The school also requires proof of residency in the form of a utility bill showing the physical address of your residence. It takes 24 hours to process new students. Students will be allowed to attend school the day following registration. Any questions should be directed to the school office at 242-7741.
